nice pins 8 | sally mussellwhite

I studied art history at uni, I adore exhibitions and recently I've been super inspired by all things art. I just finished reading Seven Days in the Art World by Sarah Thornton. It's a brilliant book and an amazing insight into the art world, and it made me want to go to art school immediately! That probably won't happen any time soon, so in the meantime pinterest is a fantastic way of discovering new and inspiring artists...

1 | Satsuki shibuya's photo-synthesis series is seriously beautiful - I love following her work on her instagram feed.
2 | I've been a huge fan of Katy Smail's paintings for a while now, and her entire portfolio is so super gorgeous and fun.
3 | Wonderful, bright and fun paintings, (and an incredibly inspiring interview) by Ken Done. My Mum has a gorgeous painting by him at home and it is happiness.
4 | I saw the Matisse exhibition at the Tate Modern at the start of September - it was mesmerising and so super inspiring, it made me want to get my papers and paint out straight away! I adored the colours and composition in this piece especially.
5 | I completely adore Jenny Prinn's paintings. Her colour palettes are the best.
6 | Britt Bass is an artist I discovered through pinterest. The colours and compositions in her paintings are swoon perfection and I bloody love them. Also, her iPhone cases are ace.

I was in Bristol over the lovely sunny bank holiday weekend, and visited some artists’ studios on Spike Island which were open to the public as part of Bristol Art Weekender. I was completely inspired by all the beautiful art, prints and studios; I seriously hope that one day I’ll have a space where I can be as creative and messy as possible! Anyway, by far my favourite discovery of the visit was artist Judy Rodrigues, and her beautiful mixed media paintings. They’re some of the prettiest most dreamiest paintings I’ve seen, and the one pictured above I literally couldn’t stop staring at! Inspired by nature Judy uses a variety of media (including neon highlighters!) to evolve and layer her paintings. The results are just swoony!

In completely unrelated news, I've started a facebook page for my design work. Gargh! A little scary as I don't often use facebook, but I've been spending more and more time doing freelance design work so thought it was about time! You can follow along here.

Happy New Year you lot! My 2014 has been pretty relaxing and cosy so far, plus some catching up with good friends and a bit of sorting out too! Just wanted to stop by quickly to share the gorgeous and colourful work of Heather Day which I discovered over the Christmas break. There is something about her paintings that I just completely love, and has definitely inspired me to do some more painting this year!

Just a little bit of gorgeousness for the new year! I haven't really thought about resolutions as such this year, but being more creative is a 2014 goal for sure. Do you have any goals for 2014? Hope you all had wonderful festive breaks!
