2015

2015 | sally mussellwhite

Happy New Year you lovely lot! I hope you have had a wonderful festive break and are super excited about 2015! I cannot believe how fast this past year has flown by. It's been pretty full on for me, and completely wonderful, but I feel like I haven't stopped, which maybe explains why I ended the year getting horribly ill! But I'm so super grateful for the design projects I've had the opportunity to work on and for the support & encouragement people have given to me. So I just wanted to pop by and say thank you thank you thank you! I hope 2015 is everything you wish for and more!

My pinterest feed is looking very festive at the moment, which is totally fine by me! Today I watched Frozen, drank mulled wine, went to the theatre, ate mince pies aaaand sang some carols. So I'm finally feeling pretty Christmassy. Bring on the snow. Nah, just joking.

1 | This photo is crazy stunning. By Tanner Wendell Stewart.
2 | Love these glass glitter stars in the Love Bex christmas shop.
3 | Dreamy beautiful calligraphy by Moira Ink. Shoulda attempted this for all my christmas cards!

I studied art history at uni, I adore exhibitions and recently I've been super inspired by all things art. I just finished reading Seven Days in the Art World by Sarah Thornton. It's a brilliant book and an amazing insight into the art world, and it made me want to go to art school immediately! That probably won't happen any time soon, so in the meantime pinterest is a fantastic way of discovering new and inspiring artists...

1 | Satsuki shibuya's photo-synthesis series is seriously beautiful - I love following her work on her instagram feed.
2 | I've been a huge fan of Katy Smail's paintings for a while now, and her entire portfolio is so super gorgeous and fun.
3 | Wonderful, bright and fun paintings, (and an incredibly inspiring interview) by Ken Done. My Mum has a gorgeous painting by him at home and it is happiness.
4 | I saw the Matisse exhibition at the Tate Modern at the start of September - it was mesmerising and so super inspiring, it made me want to get my papers and paint out straight away! I adored the colours and composition in this piece especially.
5 | I completely adore Jenny Prinn's paintings. Her colour palettes are the best.
6 | Britt Bass is an artist I discovered through pinterest. The colours and compositions in her paintings are swoon perfection and I bloody love them. Also, her iPhone cases are ace.

2 | It's hot and sunny every day at the moment, and I bloody love it. Happy summer y'all!
3 | The floodline series by Lisa Golightly. These abstract paintings are completely perfect. I'll take them all.
4 | Little details of Kate's home on her gorgeous tumblr. Still probably my favourite tumblr of all time!
5 | This web design by HI(NY). And also pretty much all of their gorgeous design work.
6 | Stunning photos of Cornwall on Mackie Studio's VSCO grid. They're making me want to drive down to Cornwall, right, now.

yuji hamada | sally mussellwhite

I was slightly blown away by these photos when I stumbled across them the other day, they're crazy beautiful and I just love the concept so much. Yuji is a photographer from Osaka, Japan, and his series Primal Mountain is made using just foil. It's so minimal but so stunning at the same time; the light, colours and textures in these shots are amazing. I think this series is just a little bit magic.

artist | judy rodrigues

I was in Bristol over the lovely sunny bank holiday weekend, and visited some artists’ studios on Spike Island which were open to the public as part of Bristol Art Weekender. I was completely inspired by all the beautiful art, prints and studios; I seriously hope that one day I’ll have a space where I can be as creative and messy as possible! Anyway, by far my favourite discovery of the visit was artist Judy Rodrigues, and her beautiful mixed media paintings. They’re some of the prettiest most dreamiest paintings I’ve seen, and the one pictured above I literally couldn’t stop staring at! Inspired by nature Judy uses a variety of media (including neon highlighters!) to evolve and layer her paintings. The results are just swoony!

In completely unrelated news, I've started a facebook page for my design work. Gargh! A little scary as I don't often use facebook, but I've been spending more and more time doing freelance design work so thought it was about time! You can follow along here.

First photo - iPhone5 + vsco cam, all other images from here.

artist | heather day

Happy New Year you lot! My 2014 has been pretty relaxing and cosy so far, plus some catching up with good friends and a bit of sorting out too! Just wanted to stop by quickly to share the gorgeous and colourful work of Heather Day which I discovered over the Christmas break. There is something about her paintings that I just completely love, and has definitely inspired me to do some more painting this year!

Just a little bit of gorgeousness for the new year! I haven't really thought about resolutions as such this year, but being more creative is a 2014 goal for sure. Do you have any goals for 2014? Hope you all had wonderful festive breaks!

christmas post-a-parcel

post-a-parcel | sally mussellwhite

So I recently signed up for a Christmas edition of post-a-parcel organised by Nia of Life & Co. It's such a nice idea, I thought the results of the previous post-a-parcel looked pretty fun and felt like getting a bit creative myself. Nia paired me up with the lovely Ursula in Austria, who had similar interests to me, and this it what I sent her...

A sweet little notebook which I personalised for Ursula with a big silver U | Some sweet little baubles I painted gold and bronze and covered in glitter, because who doesn't like glitter?! | A Christmassy paper garland I made | A beautiful Hello! Lucky London Christmas card | And a something silly; a sweet little bag of felt snowflakes! All packaged up in a kraft box. I've gone a bit kraft and metallic crazy this Christmas!

designer | alyson fox

alyson fox | sosallydesign

i recently discovered alyson fox, through the gorgeous collaboration she did with & other stories, which i LOVE. and i want to buy it all. it's mostly all gone online now, but trust me, it's all beautiful. as is all of her work - drawings, patterns, designs, jewellery and other collaborations... i feel like a bit of a wally because my big sister has had that print hanging in her flat for ages and i never bothered to find out who it was by! anyway, just a little bit of inspiration for your wednesday!

thanks all for your comments on my identity design! i'm giving myself the night off design work tonight, partly because i can barely keep my eyes open, partly because i want to catch up on wimbledon with a glass of wine. yes.
