Moodboard | peachy & typographic

Sally Mussellwhite | Moodboard

Well hey this blog post has been a long time coming. And by this blog post I mean, any blog post. Ah well! Just stopping by to share a recent mood board I created for a small business branding project I'm working on at the moment. I'm pretty excited about this, particularly the peachy colour palette! There's so much of that going on over on my pinterest at the moment!

I've also recently started up a new instagram account - mostly because I'm just monumentally crap at keeping up with blog posts at the moment! And it's a nice way to share snippets of design work - follow along here!

moodboard | i like it, what is it?

sally mussellwhite | moodboard

Well I haven't shared one of these in a while! If you haven't already noticed through all my instagramming, I recently moved to Sydney, yay! (more on that to come soon, promise!) It's all great so far, summer in January is wonderful, and I'm feeling ridiculously inspired. I've got some mega 2016 goals, one of which is to blog more often, but more importantly to design and be creative more often! I'm loving calm colours and clean lines at the moment, and you can see way more of that over on my Pinterest! I put this little moodboard together for something I'm about to start working on, which hopefully I'll be able to share with you very soon!

Recent Work | Kate & Ian's wedding stationery

Sally Mussellwhite design

I'm fiiiiinally getting around to sharing some more wedding stationery which I designed way back at the start of the year, for some very good friends of mine. Kate and Ian wanted something colourful and fun and in keeping with their gorgeous summer wedding. I combined hand painted type with a clean and modern font, and had all the fun painting watercolour dots and pencil circles to add to the design. It was great to see all the different elements of the wedding stationery come together, and loved the end result!

You might have noticed I'm waaaay behind on blog posts! I'm hoping to catch up on it all and get back to it properly soon!

Recent Work | Hus & Clare's wedding stationery

stationery design | sally mussellwhite

I recently had the privilege to design wedding stationery for some very very good friends of mine, and wanted to share the end result with you. Hus & Clare asked me to design something classic and minimal, with a bit of my hand-drawn typography thrown in, and just a teeny bit of colour. In some respects I felt these invitations were quite different from my usual style, but in other ways I think they're so 'me'! Either way, I loved the end result. And also, it was just such a crazy beautiful wedding!

nice pins 10 | sally mussellwhite

According to the internet, it's *national stationery week*. Whaaaaaaa?! Who even knew that was a thing? I didn't. But it's ok by me. Because I bloody love the stuff. The majority of my design work lately has been lovely stationery - more on that soon - and pinterest is just a constant source of gorgeous inspiration, I mean, look! Gaaaaagh! Just thought I'd share a few of my faves here...

1 | I recently discovered Script Merchant, and their stunning typographic invites.
2 | A super sweet watercolour design by The Lovely Drawer.
3 | I couldn't get over this invitation design when I first saw it. Completely incredible and insanely beautiful, by Belinda Love Lee.
4 | Yay for floral typography. Beau-Tied, for Green Wedding Shoes.
5 | Ok, I just love love this. It's so happy. It's by Suite Paperie. They have a lot of lovely stuff,
6 | And a lovely illustrated design by Ryn Frank.

recent work | sadie & andy's order of service

order of service | sally mussellwhite

I designed a bespoke order of service towards the end of last year for a lovely couple that I wanted to share with you. Sadie and Andy had a really clear idea of what they wanted; something very delicate, soft and a little vintage to compliment all the gorgeous details of their wedding. They'd already chosen the font American Typewriter which they'd used throughout their wedding stationery, so I stuck with this and I chose a colour palette which worked well with the flowers and dresses on the day. I hand drew some roses and lovebirds which I converted to vector in illustrator to add all the pretty delicate details.

Photographing some of my recent design work, and updating my portfolio is high up on the to-do list for 2015, so hopefully I'll be sharing more new work soon!

Things have been a bit hectic crazy lately, hence the radio silence over here! Sometimes managing a day job with freelance design work is really flippin' difficult and I'm trying to find a bit of a better way to balance everything out at the moment, and to stop my head from exploding. That being said, I've been working on some really exciting projects lately, which I've really been enjoying, and thought I'd share a few sneak peeks with you...

sally mussellwhite design sneak peeks

+ Some hand drawn typography that I did for a save the date design recently.
+ A mood board for a branding project I'm working on - can't wait to share this with you!
+ A fun floral pattern I put together, just for fun - i'm starting to realise patterns are my fave.
+ And a small detail of an order of service, which I'm just wrapping up at the moment.

So I'm trying to remember this. It helps.

modern calligraphy class

quill london calligraphy class | sally mussellwhite

This Saturday I went to a wonderful calligraphy class at The Blacksmith & Toffee Maker in Angel, organised by Quill London, and taught by Imogen Owen. I'd been looking around for a calligraphy class for a while, but all the ones I'd found seemed too lengthy or expensive. So when I found out about this through Quill's twitter feed I jumped at the chance and signed up. It completely outdid my expectations, and was super fun. The course was structured perfectly and realistically, and Imogen was a great teacher - I seriously cannot believe how much I learnt and achieved in just three hours! I cannot wait to get stuck in and start using this new skill in my design work!
