Moodboard | peachy & typographic

Sally Mussellwhite | Moodboard

Well hey this blog post has been a long time coming. And by this blog post I mean, any blog post. Ah well! Just stopping by to share a recent mood board I created for a small business branding project I'm working on at the moment. I'm pretty excited about this, particularly the peachy colour palette! There's so much of that going on over on my pinterest at the moment!

I've also recently started up a new instagram account - mostly because I'm just monumentally crap at keeping up with blog posts at the moment! And it's a nice way to share snippets of design work - follow along here!

Recent Work | Kate & Ian's wedding stationery

Sally Mussellwhite design

I'm fiiiiinally getting around to sharing some more wedding stationery which I designed way back at the start of the year, for some very good friends of mine. Kate and Ian wanted something colourful and fun and in keeping with their gorgeous summer wedding. I combined hand painted type with a clean and modern font, and had all the fun painting watercolour dots and pencil circles to add to the design. It was great to see all the different elements of the wedding stationery come together, and loved the end result!

You might have noticed I'm waaaay behind on blog posts! I'm hoping to catch up on it all and get back to it properly soon!

Recent Work | Hus & Clare's wedding stationery

stationery design | sally mussellwhite

I recently had the privilege to design wedding stationery for some very very good friends of mine, and wanted to share the end result with you. Hus & Clare asked me to design something classic and minimal, with a bit of my hand-drawn typography thrown in, and just a teeny bit of colour. In some respects I felt these invitations were quite different from my usual style, but in other ways I think they're so 'me'! Either way, I loved the end result. And also, it was just such a crazy beautiful wedding!

Things have been a bit hectic crazy lately, hence the radio silence over here! Sometimes managing a day job with freelance design work is really flippin' difficult and I'm trying to find a bit of a better way to balance everything out at the moment, and to stop my head from exploding. That being said, I've been working on some really exciting projects lately, which I've really been enjoying, and thought I'd share a few sneak peeks with you...

sally mussellwhite design sneak peeks

+ Some hand drawn typography that I did for a save the date design recently.
+ A mood board for a branding project I'm working on - can't wait to share this with you!
+ A fun floral pattern I put together, just for fun - i'm starting to realise patterns are my fave.
+ And a small detail of an order of service, which I'm just wrapping up at the moment.

So I'm trying to remember this. It helps.

modern calligraphy class

quill london calligraphy class | sally mussellwhite

This Saturday I went to a wonderful calligraphy class at The Blacksmith & Toffee Maker in Angel, organised by Quill London, and taught by Imogen Owen. I'd been looking around for a calligraphy class for a while, but all the ones I'd found seemed too lengthy or expensive. So when I found out about this through Quill's twitter feed I jumped at the chance and signed up. It completely outdid my expectations, and was super fun. The course was structured perfectly and realistically, and Imogen was a great teacher - I seriously cannot believe how much I learnt and achieved in just three hours! I cannot wait to get stuck in and start using this new skill in my design work!

recent work | el & roger's order of service

bespoke wedding stationery | sally mussellwhite

I wanted to share with you a wedding order of service which I was recently asked to design. El & Roger wanted something modern, minimalist and perfect for Spring! I combined hand drawn typography with a clean and modern font, and added leafy illustrations to give it a bit of personality and ensure it was in-keeping for their beautiful May wedding!

I'm trying to take on more and more freelance design work now, as I just really love doing it. I feel like I could paint, scribble, draw away and play around on illustrator for hours without getting bored! I've set up a facebook page too (eek!), so if you're on there feel free to follow along where I'll be sharing more of my work. And please get in touch if you're looking for a freelance designer!

nice pins 5 | sally mussellwhite

I feel like I'm being bombarded with inspiration at the moment, I've been away a lot recently, which I think is why - getting out and about and visiting new places is definitely the best way to inspire my creativity. But for rainy Sundays in London, there is always pinterest...

1 | Those instagram marshmallows, as cake toppers. So silly it's bloody brilliant.
2 | I pretty much love every aspect and tiny detail of this home in Gothenburg, swoon!
3 | These photos by Chris Ozer for the new NYT app are stunning - that New York skyline... take me back already!
4 | Oh hi most lovely beautiful typography in the world. Designed by Jessica Svendsen.
5 | Above my desk, which is now all tidy and lovely - a perfect space for getting creative. It makes all the difference!
6 | These please.

nice pins

Pinterest is my fave, it's always been my fave. But when I was studying I used it so much for design inspiration and research that it sort of just became a big collection of design homework and I had little time for pinning everything else. It's been nice since I graduated to just use it to pin, collect and share all things that I think are wonderful and beautiful. Here are some things which I've pinned recently that I thought I'd share with you all...

nice pins | sosallydesign

1 | Lovely hand painted type by The Weaver House.
2 | 'My Daughter Kanna' by Japanese photographer Toyokazu Nagano. I cannot get over how adorable and hilarious this girl is. I want one.
3 | Talking of Japan, Claire & Dave's photos of their holiday there have been making me want to go back so much, times a million.
4 | Love this photo by Monica Moraru.
5 | I may have seven zillion of them already, but this striped tee from Zara looks pretty perfect.
6 | Love this branding inspiration moodboard by Cassie of The Veda House.

Maybe I'll make this a regular feature? Obviously I'd have to start blogging a bit more often to make it regular, ha... but you never know! You can follow me on pinterest here.

currently designing | my brand

personal branding | sosallydesign

it's the end of a very long day of designing for me. but just the first of four this long 'weekend'! i'm trying to get all my work up to a good standard for my portfolio, before i graduate in july. it still feels like i've got such a long way to go though! and i'm a bit terrified. a lot. one of the things i've been working on recently is my personal brand identity, which I've really enjoyed. so i thought i'd share some of my options with you. please let me know what you think! they're all much of a muchness, and i think i have a favourite. but there is a bit of tweaking to do, and i'd love to know your opinions before i finalise things. i've really loved using hand done typography throughout my course, so i imagine that's the route i'll take for this too.

i'm also starting to work on my online portfolio, i'm thinking of using squarespace, or maybe behance prosite. let me know if you have any recommendations? and i'll try to pop back here again soon :)
