polpo | a venetian cook book (of sorts)

polpo cook book | sally mussellwhite blog

A bit of an unusual post for me, but I couldn't resist, I mean have you seeeen this cookbook?! My mum gave it to me for Christmas, and I love love it. Polpo is one of my favourite London restaurants ever ever, and the cookbook is totally amazing too. I love the way it's bound with red thread, I love the gorgeous gold typography and the thick cream paper. But the design layout and photography used is beautiful too. I can't wait to get stuck in and try to create some of the recipes, especially the spinach, soft egg and parmesan pizzetta. My fave.

sydney

wylie's baths, sydney | sally mussellwhite

Apparently it's Blue Monday, so thought I could cheer things up by sharing some photos of gorgeous Sydney! This blog post has been a long time coming... there were so many photos to sort through! And yes, I'm going to attempt to sum up Sydney in one massive blog post, ha. Just look at that blue sky and clear water. Let's just say I really bloody loved it, it's suuuuch a great, fun, stylish, creative and beautiful city. No wonder so many people end up moving over there. I was there for 10 days and saw so much, but also felt like I barely scraped the surface! I guess it's a bit like London in that respect, soooo many places to go and things to do!

Yeah it's a pretty great place, I recommend it times a million. It is far far far away and pretty pricey but I guarantee you'll like it. I want to go back already. Some of my absolute favourite things in Sydney were...

+ Shopping and brunching and drinking in Surrey Hills.
+ Swimming and sunbathing at Wylie's Baths.
+ The coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee. (Sculpture by the Sea was on whilst we were there which was an extra bonus.)
+ Getting ferries across the harbour, past the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
+ Ricotta hotcakes at Bill's!
+ Shopping in Koskela, ohmigosh I wanted to buy it allllll. I didn't

Happy New Year you lot! My 2014 has been pretty relaxing and cosy so far, plus some catching up with good friends and a bit of sorting out too! Just wanted to stop by quickly to share the gorgeous and colourful work of Heather Day which I discovered over the Christmas break. There is something about her paintings that I just completely love, and has definitely inspired me to do some more painting this year!

Just a little bit of gorgeousness for the new year! I haven't really thought about resolutions as such this year, but being more creative is a 2014 goal for sure. Do you have any goals for 2014? Hope you all had wonderful festive breaks!

christmas post-a-parcel

post-a-parcel | sally mussellwhite

So I recently signed up for a Christmas edition of post-a-parcel organised by Nia of Life & Co. It's such a nice idea, I thought the results of the previous post-a-parcel looked pretty fun and felt like getting a bit creative myself. Nia paired me up with the lovely Ursula in Austria, who had similar interests to me, and this it what I sent her...

A sweet little notebook which I personalised for Ursula with a big silver U | Some sweet little baubles I painted gold and bronze and covered in glitter, because who doesn't like glitter?! | A Christmassy paper garland I made | A beautiful Hello! Lucky London Christmas card | And a something silly; a sweet little bag of felt snowflakes! All packaged up in a kraft box. I've gone a bit kraft and metallic crazy this Christmas!

noosa

noosa | sally mussellwhite

After a nice relaxing few days in Byron Bay, we drove North up the coast to Queensland. I drove, in an automatic, weird, through The Gold Coast, crazy, and then past some gorgeous coast line into The Sunshine Coast. It was pretty fun really, and we ended up in Noosa with high hopes of seeing koalas. Noosa was like two different worlds in one place; some of the shops and restaurants on Hastings Street were way too fancy for our shorts and flip-flops vibe, but very lovely all the same, and let's face it, who doesn't want to try salted caramel popcorn ice-cream made by the magic of liquid nitrogen?! And then 1K down the beach in Noosa National Park we were surrounded by dense forest, deserted beaches, turquoise sea, white sand and crazy wildlife. I did not get along with the wild turkeys. It was gorgeous though, we walked for miles and just kept stumbling upon the most incredible beaches. I loved it, it's a gorgeous bit of coastline, go go go if you get the chance!

byron bay

byron bay | sally mussellwhite

Byron Bay was the first stop in Oz. It was exactly as I'd imagined it, beautiful beaches, loads of surfers and a very chilled out town. A pretty good way to start the holiday, especially after the 30 hour journey! It was laid back, calm and beautiful. The sand squeaked and the sunsets were spectacular. A highlight has to be Tallow Beach which was a short walk through the bush from where we staying - a huge, completely deserted white sand beach. We explored it at sunset and it was stunning.

love a good parcel

In an attempt to buy more of my Christmas presents from small and independent companies, I obviously ended up treating myself to a few things too, oops. Shopping for things online from creative humans is one of the best things ever ever. It’s super easy and stress free, you can get things from ALL OVER THE WORLD, oh, and then, because they’re all so cool, lovely and creative, they go and wrap it up in the most beautiful of ways. Just look at this loveliness, gotta love a good parcel!

1 | I treated myself to this tote bag from Fieldguided, it’s been on my wishlist for like, ever. I totally love it. It’s so gorgeous and reeeeally good quality too.
2 | Knot & Bow does the cutest stationery supplies, all in totally gorgeous packaging. I got some bits for me, and some Christmas surprises too!
3 | This diary by Marjolein Delhaas was on my wishlist at the start of 2013! So I treated myself for 2014 and bought it from Restored, a lovely online shop in Amsterdam. It is beautiful. (Unfortunately it wasn’t available to buy locally this year).

Talking of beautiful parcels, I’ve signed up to the Christmas Post-a-Parcel which Nia has organised! I’ve been sent my partner and am looking forward to getting super creative this weekend!

Also, I’m deleting my old blog in the new year, so make sure you switch over and start following here!

*This isn’t a sponsored post in any way! I just really, really loved these things :)

australia

splice | sally mussellwhite

Well I'm back from Australia and had a bit more of a blogging break than originally intended, thanks to some serious jetlag, a good friends birthday + some awesome celebrations. Oh and there's also the fact that I took seven million photos and still have a bit of sorting out to do! I'll be back soon with plenty of photos of my favourite Australia days. For now though, here is a mash up of some of my favourite iPhone snaps from the holiday. Look at those blue skies, sigh, take me back already....!
